NAR: Existing Home Sales Up 11%, Median Price up 11.3%



The National Association of Realtors report for U.S. *existing* home sales -- with data through September 2012 -- was released October 19.
 
Existing-home sales are re-sales of extant property, they are completed transactions for the month prior; new construction is excluded from review. Data includes all property types: single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops.
 

U.S. Home Sales

Total existing-home sales, which are completed transactions that include single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops, are 11% above September 2011. The national median existing-home price for all housing types was $183,900 in September, up 11.3% from a year ago.  Listed inventory is 20% below a year ago.

Single-family homes:
  • Sales are 10.8% higher than September 2011.
  • The median existing single-family home price was $184,300 in September, up 11.4% from a year ago.

Condominiums and co-ops:
  • Sales are 12.5% above a year ago.
  • The median existing condo price was $181,000 in September, which is 10.0% higher than September 2011.
